English Original
black oil slick
washed up on the beach --
looking
in the dead dolphin’s eye
I see a part of myself
Atlas Poetica, 33,July 2018
Comment by Chen-ou Liu
The upper verse depicts a devastating oil spill scene while the lower verse conveys a poignant and environmentally-conscious sense of oneness with nature, which reminds me of the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill disaster, an industrial disaster that has made marine life and neighboring communities suffer for years.
